Sidewalk Notes

A familiar street, seen slowly

A short walk does not need a destination. A change in light, a row of doorways or the shape of a street tree can be enough to notice something new.

A familiar street, seen slowly

An exercise in looking

Choose a small part of a familiar route and give it a little more attention than usual. Look for a repeating shape: a curve in a railing, a pattern in paving stones or the spacing of windows.

Keep a pocket-sized record

A small notebook is easier to carry when it has a simple purpose. Use it for brief observations rather than a complete diary of the day. A line or a quick drawing may say enough.
